IIntroduction
The .CA domain is a country code
Top Level Domains (ccTLD) designated for the nation of
Canada. Much like a country's telephone code, different
ccTLDs have been assigned to various nations that have
developed Internet infrastructures. Contrary to common
myths, the .CA name is fully accessible by users worldwide,
just like a .com name. The only difference is there a set of
restrictions to registering .CA domain names.
The Old .CA Rules
Currently, the most restricting
factors for registering a .CA name are (1) you have to be a
federally incorporated company and (2) only one domain is
allowed per company. This prevents many Canadian companies
and individuals from obtaining their desired .CA name(s).
The NEW .CA Rules
The current restrictions on .CA
names will be relaxed on or about November 1, 2000. The
Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) will allow
any Canadian resident or business to register multiple .ca
domain names. Rules are on a first come first serve basis
and since domain names are unique, thousands of Canadians
are rushing to reserve their .CA names before it is taken.
How to Get a .CA Name
To register your .CA, you must
choose a "CIRA Certified Registrar" to reserve your .CA name
(CIRA does NOT take accept .CA registrations directly).
CanReg.com is a CIRA certified registrar and was one of the
first to be certified due to our long history and experience
in the Internet field in Canada (more about us).
